Holistic Massage

Massage is one of the oldest forms of therapy. The main aim of massage is to help the body heal itself and to increase health and well-being. Massage is one of the best known remedies for stress. Reducing stress gives you more energy and provides you with a more positive outlook on life, and as a result reduces probability of injury and illness. It improves general health and promotes deep relaxation and vitality as well as relief from aches, pains or stiffness.

Indian Head Massage is a holistic therapy. It is a traditional Indian technique treating the upper back, neck, shoulders, face and scalp. It is based on alternative medicine principles. It works on physical and psychological level. It releases blocked energy that builds up in our bodies which later causes health problems. By massaging the head and shoulders, energies will become rebalanced and a general feeling of relaxation will be achieved It is said that the massage works on the higher energy centers or ‘chakras’. It is believed that there are seven main chakras. In the Western medicine chakras are explained as the system that governs the secretion of hormones within our body. In Indian society the chakras relate to the emotional and spiritual aspects being linked to our aura or energy field. Chakras are energy wheels which link our energy field to our physical body. When the chakras are blocked, illness is the result.

Indian head massage works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress. Stress and anxiety are two of the major health issues of modern-day living and both can be improved through Indian head massage. Stress affects the whole body so many health problems can arise. By easing stress through massage of the upper body, we can have a direct positive influence to the rest of the body. The other very important factor in relieving stress is just being touched as it stimulates our nerves and leaves us feeling nurtured and cared for.

The treatment is a safe and effective therapy that can help treat a variety of conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression and mental tension. It promotes blood circulation and lymphatic drainage to the upper part of the body.

Indian head massage also helps to:

  • increase oxygen and glucose supply to the brain
  • relive tension headaches, eye – strain, tinnitus, jaw ache
  • reduce hair loss, premature balding and greying
  • loosen the scalp
  • release accumulated toxins
  • improve the growth of hair
  • improve concentration
  • improve circulation of blood in previously congested muscles, providing extra oxygen for the brain
  • disturbed sleep and insomnia
  • improve skin tone
  • increase mobility in the upper body
  •  enhance concentration

Massage can be practiced with or without oils, whilst the client is clothed or partially clothed. Oils may be applied to the scalp as part of the treatment (e.g. olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil and jojoba oil). The treatment lasts for ˝ hour and does not involve undressing.
